"content": "now turning to drugs and early prostitution. Therefore, it is not fair to tell parents that they must take their kids to school and yet they cannot afford to educate them. I wish to urge the Mover to make some amendments. While I appreciate that everybody in this country must be able to operate the computers and that we introduce them at an early stage, we must also get our priorities right. There are schools that do not have desks or even floors. I appreciate the President’s directive that we provide laptops to children in Standard One, but it is high time we got our priorities right. We could introduce these things in the coming years. We need to put our infrastructure in place. When a child is hungry, he cannot perform. Hungry children cannot go to class to study. So giving them a laptop might not be a priority for now. These children are living a hopeless life. They have no houses. Nobody cares about them. A teacher stays in the classroom from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. They have no other business to do. Imagine handling pupils of different characters from different backgrounds. By the end of the day the teacher is tired. The same teacher is crying for his or her salary and promotion. The same teacher is crying for a place to live. Things are wrong in this country. We need to determine where we are headed to. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I beg to support this Motion."
