"content": "On a point of order, Madam Temporary Speaker. I have a problem in the manner we are proceeding with the debate on this amendment. The substantive Motion reads in part; “The Senate urges the Government to profile all the current Internally Displaced Persons and to take urgent and immediate steps towards resettling IDPs and finding a lasting solution to their plight.” The use of the word “current,” to me, by any stretch of language or imagination should not be seen to refer to any IDPs whether from 1895 or 1920s. “Current” refers to those who are present right now. Anybody talking about an amendment which takes us out of the word “current” cannot be within the Standing Orders of this House as far as amendments to the Motion are concerned. Therefore, I would like us to revisit this issue on whether this amendment is properly before the House before we proceed."
