    "content": "Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir for giving me the opportunity to second this Motion on a subject that is of great concern. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Sen. (Dr.) Machage for being sensitive and for introducing this Motion for debate in this House. We all know that Dr. Machage is a medical doctor. He is still a practicing doctor of high repute. I thank him for bringing this matter to the attention of the Senate and the people of Kenya. Alcohol and drug abuse is, not only a threat to our country, but also poses serious challenges to our country’s development efforts, security and social order. It has endangered the health of victims and compromised their human dignity. It has destroyed homes and separated families. It has destroyed lives and created orphans, widows and widowers. Alcohol and drug abuse has drained individual and family resources, consumed and wasted wealth leaving behind poverty and misery.
