Senators, Standing Order No.3(1)(c) requires that on the first sitting of a new Senate, pursuant to the President’s notification under Article 126(2) of the Constitution, the Clerk shall administer the Oath or Affirmation of Office provided for in the Third Schedule to the Constitution to all Senators present in the Senate in the order set out in Standing Order No.3(2). Standing Order No.3 (2) provides:- “The Clerk shall administer the Oath or Affirmation of Office to Senators in alphabetical order using the following order of precedence- (a) Senators with the longest cumulative period of service in the Senate; The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate."
