    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, thank you for the opportunity to request for a Statement. I rise to seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Land and Natural Resources. The Statement relates to the use and disposal of plastic bags of less than 0.6 millimetres in thickness. Mr. Speaker, Sir, close to 150 million plastic bags are used annually in this country. My concern is that one of the by-products of plastics is dioxin. Dioxin is one of the greatest precursors of cancer. There are increasing incidences of cancer in the country at the moment and we are looking at sources and possible causes.
