"content": "150 of them. So, it is not true that it is the political class that is adding to the wage bill just merely because we have two Houses of Parliament at this point in time. So, therefore, what was very cardinal and fundamental is to demolish the emotional argument that is constantly made that it is the political class and particularly the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who are continuing to contribute to the increment of the wage bill, yet we know just before the last election, councilors in the predecessor councils were earning in excess of the Kshs79,000 so to speak. So, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Sarah Serem-led Commission must answer the Chair; who is increasing the wage bill, because it is not true to emotionally and countlessly tell us that it is the political class. There are more commissioners in this country than there are Senators – 117 of them, with only 67 Senators; in fact, there are 40 more commissioners than there are Senators in the Republic of Kenya – and each of them takes a salary which is higher and enjoy a facility which is higher than that of the Members of the Senate. Therefore, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, that is what I simply wanted to say in terms of my intervention so that we start with that critical point to demolish that argument and then make the other salient points about our earnings to MCAs and the elected political class."
