You cannot say that you have independent media when the regulating authority is actually a State organ appointed by the Cabinet Secretary and whose salaries are determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). How do we achieve this independence? Self- regulation preserves the independence of the media and protects it from partisan Government interest."
