"content": "Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I feel that this Bill needs to be improved. It has many grey areas. The first one is Clause 2 on the definition of the terms “journalism” and “journalist”. The profession of journalism appears to be a profession that has not given much credence to education. For instance, if you were to go to the engineering profession, you will find that we have standards, which are usually tied to qualifications. If you go to law, you cannot become an advocate unless you have a degree in law. The same thing happens to the nursing profession and other professional courses. In journalism, people who have done a Diploma in Journalism from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication or a Degree from the University of Nairobi, School of Journalism, are not recognized."
