"content": "Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, it is true that animals attract tourists. It is also true that we need the money that we get from tourism. However, on the issue of tourism, I happen to hold a slightly different view. I think time has now come when we should stop equating tourism with animals. It is time, in my view, that players in the tourism sector in Kenya became more creative. If you go to America, Europe and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for example, you will find that some of the leading tourist attraction sites are actually not animals but are manmade features. If you go to America, you will look at the manmade features like the Hoover Dam and the White House. If you go to the United Kingdom, you will find the Buckingham Palace. If you go to France, you will find the Eiffel Tower. If you go to Italy, you will see the leading Tower of Pisa. Those are tourist attraction sites which attract millions of tourists as opposed to our obsession and the false belief that we can only attract tourists if we conserve our animals."
