"content": "I would say that the status quo of stopping the forest from being logged until an amicable solution has been reached, should be maintained and the first condition should be an environmental impact assessment which should come from a different party and not the Forest Department itself or the Kenya Forest Service. Lastly, there is confusion in this country at the moment in relation to resources that belong to the national Government. The county governments lay claim on forests. According to the Constitution, that function was not devolved and therefore there is no county government that can lay claim on any forest. Forests belong to the Government of Kenya. When the Kenya Forest Service allows governors to authorise logging, we are actually bending the law and that should be discouraged at all levels."
