"content": "CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS OF CHAIRPERSONS OF COMMITTEES Hon. Senators, Standing Order No.183 (1) requires that Select Committees to hold their first meeting within seven days of the constitution by the Senate or such further period as the Speaker may approve. During the first meeting, the clerk is supposed to conduct the election of the Chairpersons and the Vice Chairpersons by secret ballot. The following are the new Standing Committees which will be subjected to elections: (i) Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries; (ii) Committee on Education; (iii) Committee on Roads and Transport; and (iv) Committee on Labour and Social Welfare. Under the Sessional Committees, we have the following:- (i) County Public Accounts and Investments Committee; (ii) Committee on Devolved Government; (iii) Committee on Implementation and (iv)Committee on Delegated Legislation. Basically, all sessional committees are due for elections. The rest, since they had a mandate we had given them last year, will continue accordingly. Owing to the fact that a lot of time has already been lost since the Second Session commenced, I now direct that all constituted committees meet and conduct the elections of Chairpersons from Tuesday, March, 18th for a period of two weeks. The clerk will do a schedule to show when elections will be held."
