"content": "Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I thank the Mover of the Motion, knowing that for many years, Kenya has gone through a lot of challenges in terms of addressing the human rights injustices that have cut across this country. In the Constitution, Article 23 is very clear about the authority of courts to uphold and enforce the Bill of Rights. Within that, they should ensure that the injustices that were done are compensated. When I look at the Mover’s Motion, I hope that my fellow Senators will bring in an amendment so that we deal with the issue holistically. When we talk about the 1982 coup, we realise that the Kenyans who went through trials went through martial courts. As much as we would have wanted to know how proceedings in those courts were conducted, owing to the rules and regulations, the business there was determined by military personnel."
