"content": "These incidences have increased in their frequency and in their magnitude. It appears that as Kenyans are discussing this issue, we are in denial. We are praying that somehow it will fizzle away and life will be as usual. It is not business as usual. The way I see it and the way we should see it is that this nation is under attack. We do not know and we have not been told who is attacking us. We should be open minded and in the spirit with which we fought for Independence, and the spirit we have faced such challenges before – I remember there was a time when this country was under threat – we were able to demonstrate in the streets and come out as a nation and as a patriotic people to say that we must defend our country. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it has happened in Mpeketoni, Lamu. We should remember it also happened in Tana River, Baragoi and Mandera. Who was responsible for the attacks in Mandera and who was the target? Who was responsible for the attack in Mpeketoni and who was the target? Was it a particular community? This is happening all over; in Mombasa and Eastleigh. Are the grenades which are being thrown in Eastleigh targeting a particular community? As I speak now, our economy is under attack. To me, this is economic sabotage. If tourism which is our main economic stay is under threat; then this country is under threat. Our people are being attacked and our wildlife is not being spared. Could these incidents be happening just by accident? Some people are saying that this is happening because we took our Kenya Defence Force (KDF) to Somalia. We should ask ourselves why, in the first place, we went to Somalia. It was because we had been attacked and not once or twice. Had we not sent KDF to Somalia, how would the situation be? Would it be worse or better? We went to Somalia for a reason. All Kenyans are proud of the achievements the KDF soldiers made. If what is happening is retaliation, then we should ask ourselves whether we should be divided or we should close ranks and face the enemy. With regard to the blame game, if you have been in the security sector, you will agree with me that there are times there are mistakes of commission or omission of the senior or junior officers. We should call all these officers to the relevant committee on security matters to take the responsibility. Thank you."
