"content": "I have heard him loud and clear, though I am not an expert in Islamic Law. I have been advised today by the hon. Member for Garissa Town that Islamic Law requires that a person must be 19 years old before he/she can marry or get married. That is what he has said. I have also read the Constitution, Article 45(2) states as follows:- “Every adult has the right to marry a person of the opposite sex, based on the free consent of the parties.” To me, “adult” means a person of 18 years of age. If it means 18 years of age, then the law, as stated in the Bill, must be the law that we uphold. The proposed amendment must be rejected.
