Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order No.44(2)(c) I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Co-operatives regarding drought management in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs). The ASAL areas are drought prone mainly because of their peculiar climatic conditions. However, the Government response seems inadequate every time there is a serious drought. There has been very little rain in the ASAL areas in the last three years as demonstrated by the ongoing severe shortage of water in the region.
