"content": "Thank you, hon. Speaker, Sir. I rise in connection to what has been said about Mount Elgon. I want to say that I am the County Women Representative, Bungoma County (CWR), where Mount Elgon falls under. I want to talk about Chepkurkur Primary School. This issue is not new. It featured in the newspaper sometime back. As the CWR, Bungoma County, I visited that school in June and we had a meeting with the community. The first person who blew the whistle about girls getting pregnant was the headmaster of the primary school. The Chairman of the school together with the community organized a meeting and we looked at the issues affecting this school. What came out is that that region, having been a settlement, has issues pertaining to the community. In most cases we learnt that most of the houses are too small. They are one room houses. So, what happens is that parents take children to the neighbours’ houses which are bigger to sleep there. So, boys and girls meet in the neighbourhood and girls are made pregnant.
