"content": "Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. Pursuant to Standing Order No. 44(2)(c), I wish to seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology, regarding teachers who retired in 1997 and even earlier. The retired teachers went to court seeking resolution of their unpaid gratuities and other dues, and the High Court ruled in their favour, awarding them a total of Kshs.16.4 billion. The National Treasury budgeted Kshs.3.34 billion in the Financial Year 2009/2010 and Kshs.2.6 billion in the Financial Year 2010/2011.
