"content": "Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, this report is very important. I have read it page to page and I think the Committee should be commended for a job well done. The only challenge is whether what is in that report is going to be translated into action. I think that is the big question. A lot of these issues are issues that have been talked about as the Prime Minister has stated. They are all in the public domain and there is nothing new. It is just that they have now been nicely coordinated and put into a report which can be used as a reference point. If you look at the sugar industry today, the statistics are very clear that the consumption is over 600,000 metric tonnes and the production is just about 400,000 tonnes. I think the consumption patterns are increasing and so, the gap is going to increase between production and consumption. Therefore, there is a lot of scope for increased production of sugar. If you look at the world scenario now, there is a huge shortage of sugar because a lot of the big sugar producers, instead of producing sugar, are now going in for bio-fuel and, therefore, what is available as sugar is getting less and less. This means that investing in sugar is going to be a very attractive preposition."
