    "content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, even as I applaud those measures, it is clear that those measures are not translating into any tangible benefit to the people. Over the last couple of weeks, it has become manifest that inflation continues to spiral skywards. Over the last three months, inflation has been rising at an average of 3 per cent per month. It stood at 6.5 per cent in the month of March, 9.19 per cent in the month of April, and is now just above 12 per cent. Considering the April inflation rate of 12 per cent alone, it means that the 12.5 per cent rise in the minimum wage that the Government announced recently essentially amounts to zero gain for the intended beneficiaries, because the value of the pay rise was wiped out by the increase in inflation."
