"content": "As we move forward, we know for sure that opinion polls which are credible must be conducted in a scientific manner. In our case in this country, I do not want to entirely say that these opinions are not conducted in a scientific manner. However, there is need for us to satisfy ourselves and the country at large, that any opinion poll conducted in this country is, indeed, carried out in a scientific manner. I would not like to say that we should not have opinion polls. We need to have opinion polls, but they must be very clear. They should be able to, at any one given time, show us the methodology that was used to get the sample and questions which were used. I do not doubt that all the polls conducted in this country may not necessarily be credible. It is important, for example, to know the population size. Where exactly are you conducting that poll? You may not be able to go to the whole population and, therefore, you must use a sample. That is where the key thing is. This sample must be as representative as possible to the population. That is where problems come in. Let me give a scientific example; if you have a population A and another population B somewhere, and population A is double the size of population B, meaning clearly that the size of population A is twice of B, when you get a sample in each of these two populations which are equal, then clearly it means that, that particular sample is not representative enough. Those are the issues that we are talking about. If you look at a political opinion poll, we might put questions to some people, but how sure are we that the people we are asking questions at the end of the day, are the people who will even vote? How sure are we that these people are even registered as voters? How sure are we that these people are even Kenyans? These are some of the things that we need to make sure that we have proper laws in this country that will regulate the opinion polls."
