"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, to temporarily change the interaction of the two communities in the market, the Ministry of State for Special Programmes has distributed 100 bags of rice, 100 cartons of vegetable oil and 100 bags of beans as the lasting solution to that major problem is being sought. The distribution of relief food will continue on a regular basis to deter the Turkana from moving to the Ethiopia side in search of food. The bodies of the dead persons were disposed of at Todonyang Catholic Church Cemetery. In the meantime, the Government is relocating the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Administration Police (AP) camps at Todonyang to the actual border point between the two countries, which is 14 kilometers away, in order to counter any revenge attacks between the warring communities. The Government has also initiated peace and reconciliation meetings between the communities living along the border for a lasting solution. Further, I would like to report that the Government has now been in touch with the Ethiopian Government over the killings in order to explore ways in which the two countries can ensure that similar killings will not recur. Meanwhile, a joint border commission meeting will be held soon to put in place strategies to ensure that the two communities live in peace. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like, at this stage, to appeal for calm and urge the two communities to avoid the temptation to revenge. But I can say that this is a matter that we have already decided to liaise with the Ethiopian Government to ensure that it takes the necessary measures â like ourselves - to ensure that the two communities live cordially and exercise peaceful co-existence."
