"content": "Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, is the Assistant Minister aware that the Sugar Act in place today is being flouted by nearly all sugar millers in Kenya, in terms of payments to farmers who are supposed to be paid after 30 days but instead wait for a long time and that is why they become desperate and go to sugar jaggeries? Secondly, there is a provision in the Sugar Act that cane is supposed to be weighed at the farm gate. That is the law today but it is not being followed. Could he tell us when the Sugar Act is going to be amended to make sure that sugar farmersâ interests are taken into account?"
