"content": "The problem that the women in Kenya have is bigger than what we are discussing here. I agree with hon. Jakoyo Midiwo that serious amendments to the existing legislation must be brought to this House. Women’s interests have not been taken seriously. Women in the country today continue to suffer as a result of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) even though an anti- FGM law has been enacted by this House. Knives continue doing the round, and women are suffering. Women continue to suffer as they use the public transport system – in matatus. Even those women whose rights are anchored in their religion continue to suffer. The law is very clear about Muslim girls in school. There is a very serious social problem in our country as far as the rights of women are concerned."
