I have listened to the various articles of the Constitution quoted, but the petitioner has a right to petition this House on any issue that he deems necessary to be listened to and he will be given that right. Therefore, pursuant to Standing Order No.227 (1), the petition stands committed to the relevant Standing Committee, in this case the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. In terms of Standing Order No.227 (2), the Committee will be required in not more than 60 days from the time of reading the prayer – that is today – to respond to the petitioner by way of a report addressed to the petitioner and laid on the Table of this Senate. I want the Committee to carefully interrogate the HANSARD on the comments that have been made on the Floor of this House today as they give their report to this House. Next Order!"
