"content": "I also thank the Mover, hon. Keynan. He should have become a soldier before he went to university. I represent two constituencies. I represent Saku as a Member of Parliament and I also represent my colleagues, both men and women in uniform, who are out there in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). The KDF is an all-volunteer force. Members of the KDF are not represented by any union or any organization. Members of the KDF look up to this House and the Constitution so that their welfare is properly looked after. The military is not any other ordinary job; it is a vocational profession. It is a calling. It is the only job undertaken by men and women that is bigger than their lives because as men and women join the military, they put their names in red; that they will go to war and they will not ask their superiors any questions. Through this Bill, we have recognized and protected the fundamental freedoms to preserve the dignity of the military community. If hon. Members support this Bill, then we will have promoted social justice and realization of the potential of all men and women in uniform and those who exit the military. Through this Bill, we are sending a clear message to those men and women in uniform that there is life after the military; after finishing their service of providing distinguished service to their nation."
