Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I would have preferred that we retain what is in Clause 20 with the addition of the words “and as approved by the general meeting preceding the election”. That is actually what they have done. Even by not mentioning the IEBC, you have still imported it in your new amendment. I do not know why the Law Society of Kenya would be averse to using the IEBC. Even though the IEBC is not good, it is better than nothing. It is a better means of conducting smaller elections like the ones for the Law Society of Kenya. I would want to persuade the Chair, if we could consider putting those words. What you have basically done is not to mention the IEBC, but you have not precluded it being used. The new amendment that you have provided is “to be approved by the general meeting preceding the election”, which means you are taking the authority from the Council to the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Chair would consider doing that amendment."
