The same products have been qualitatively and quantitatively analysed and preliminary results indicate that these drinks have traces of herbicides, pesticides and aflatoxin. This, therefore, makes the drinks outright toxic. Further analysis has indicated that they are carcinogenic. The Member for Seme, Prof. Nyikal, can tell us what carcinogenic is all about. These are some of the agents that have caused kidney and liver failure and other health failures. The Committee on Health needs to confirm to us what is in the public domain that over 3,000 elites visit India every year for kidney and liver treatments and other related diseases. You can then imagine the millions of Kenyans who use these products, but cannot afford to go to India, neither can they afford treatment at the Nairobi Hospital, the Aga Khan and other high class hospitals. They are just dying without being able to do anything about it. When you look at this data, which we have and need to confirm, you will see that our country is at risk. We are at risk of losing a complete generation. In fact, we have lost it. If we do not do something, we will be in total trouble. What is funny about the whole scenario is how we got into the situation. In Kenya, containers of imported spirits are disposed carelessly. They are then collected and sold to J ua Kali artisans and to homesteads that trade in illicit drinks. They make fake alcoholic drinks with the names of the imported drinks. Then they sell them to big hotels where we consume them without knowing. If you look at the class of people who visit those hotels, for example, the hotels we visit, we are also suffering from those diseases. More importantly, the statistics can speak for themselves that the kinds of alcoholic drinks that are imported into this country are from a bigger source than the sources that are there. We have more people selling alcoholic drinks to Kenya than the factories out there. This means that illicit businessmen from those countries, for instance, Asia, Europe and even Africa, manufacture illicit alcoholic drinks, pack them and bring them to our country. We then consume them. We are therefore, having death right, left and centre. Worse still is when these containers are released to the J ua Kali artisans and the illicit brewers. They add poison to poison. The poison is then sold and kills our people. The cycle is vicious, and it continues to increase. This country is suffering from a situation where we just sit down and watch as things go wrong. We are going to spend so much on health. We are already spending so much on health. You can see how much the Government spent the other day to manage cancer in this country – a whooping sum of Kshs38 billion. You can see how much money is spent to manage kidney failure and other diseases. You can see how much losses we are incurring due to insecurity. People are clobbering one another and killing families. All this is very expensive to us. We are wasting so much time at funerals and Harambees raising money for these people. We are wasting so much manpower, resources and money that we invested, especially in free primary education. Most of the pupils who started enjoying free primary education have become victims of cartels. It is for this reason that we are experiencing a very bad scenario.
