"content": " Mr. Speaker, Sir. I wish to request for a Statement from the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights regarding the Government’s plan to open more consulates in the United States of America (USA), which according to the Cabinet Secretary (CS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, will be used as polling centres by Kenyans living in the USA during the 2017 General Elections. In the Statement, the Chairperson should clarify:- (a) The role of the Executive in setting up polling stations. (b) Whether the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, has set up a task force on this matter which is not within the Ministry’s mandate. (c) Whether the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was consulted in the plans to set up these polling stations. (d) Why this would be confined only to the USA yet there are many Kenyans residing in other countries? The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate."
