"content": "Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I would like to know from the Chairperson whether what is being contested in Burundi is clear. I know the Senate Minority Leader has said that the statement issued by the Head of State was bizarre, but I do not think it was so, because I think the whole situation is bizarre. President Nkurunzinza is claiming that he is not running for the third time because the first time he was in power in Burundi it was by an arrangement and not via an election and that this time he wants run for a second time and not a third time. In fact, that is what is being contested in that country. Mr. Chairman, Sir, we should not ignore these facts and assume that there is no issue at hand. The people of Burundi need to be given time for negotiation and that is precisely what the President of this county has been saying. They should postpone the election for a while to understand why he is seeking another term. We are interested in what is going on in Burundi and that is why we should be cautious. We do not want to inflame the Burundi issue in case the consequences affect us as we have indicated before."
