"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I have Sen. Murungi’s Statement and it has been here for the last one week, but unfortunately he was not in the House and so it was not the fault of the Committee to delay the Statement. STATUS OF THE AGREEMENT ON THE MERU/ISIOLO COUNTY BORDER Mr. Speaker, Sir, Sen. Murungi requested for a Statement regarding the status of an agreement on the Meru/Isiolo County border and the Senate has requested to be informed on the current status of the Government and why the national Government has refused to implement the agreement resulting in permanent insecurity and loss of lives and property along the common border. Thirdly, what practical steps the Government is taking to eradicate cattle rustling and ensure permanent peace and security along the Meru/Isiolo Border. I wish to respond as follows: The Meru/Isiolo counties border has never been surveyed or determined. Land along the boundary and, particularly, in Isiolo Town and its environs remains Government land since it is neither adjudicated nor declared a trust land. The disputed area is along the Isiolo North and Tigania East constituencies in Isiolo and Meru counties, respectively. With the creation of county governments, tension has been building up due to activities of both counties that want to control the disputed areas, thus leading to clashes between the communities of the two sub-counties."
