    "content": "Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity to make my contribution on the Companies Bill, 2015. I have just observed that Members are being given 45 minutes each to contribute to this Bill. Unless you are stammering, it is quite a big job to come up with content for all that time. Nevertheless, the House made a good decision because this is a Bill with has 1,027 clauses that need to be interrogated by this House. This Bill seeks to consolidate and reform the laws that lead to the incorporation, registration, operation, management and regulation of companies. It is coming at a very opportune moment for Kenyans because we have all these separate laws that have been brought together, so that we are able to deal with the issue of operating businesses in this country. From Independence, we set out to eradicate poverty. Year in, year out, Governments keep talking about this issue. It is an issue that can be addressed if we encourage businesses to exist and operate in our country. We have had this narration every five years from leaders, ourselves included; we keep promising that we are going to ensure the economy grows, our youth get employment and our country moves to the next level. In 2013 the Government said that our economy would grow by double digits. However, two years down the road Kenyans are still waiting. The economic take-off that we were promised is a mirage. I want to remind the House that about a week ago, the most powerful person in the world, the president of the free world, His Excellency the President of the United States, was in Kenya. He was here to open the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES). This is a conference that brought together young entrepreneurs from all over the world. This is something that we need to look at because the innovation, spirit and excitement of people who were coming up with those ideas are not everything.
