"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, currently, there is an ongoing iron ore exploration exercise by our Ministry through the Mines and Geological Department in Tharaka and Mariene areas of Meru County and more work will soon be initiated in the wider Taita Taveta area. At least, one company by the name Wanjala Mining Company has registered mining locations over a small portion of the area which they have been exploring for a few years and they are now legally mining iron ore in Kishushe area. Exports of iron ore are also being regulated by Government currently and no long-term export contracts are being allowed by my Ministry. As soon as a local buyer for the mineral is found, all the ore will be made available for local use. The Wanjala Mining Company has already secured a local contract, as I am speaking, to supply 10,000 tonnes of iron ore to a local industry per year."
