Temporary Deputy Chairman, I beg to move:- THAT, Clause 24 of the Bill be amended in sub-clause(1) by deleting the words “Attorney- General” and substituting therefor the words “Director of Public Prosecutions”. This proposed amendment is in line with Article 157(6) of the Constitution which confers prosecutorial powers upon the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and not the Attorney- General. In the original draft, it appeared that the Attorney-General would be responsible for prosecutions whereas it is clear in the Constitution that the DPP is in charge of prosecution and has the prosecutorial powers."
