Temporary Deputy Chairman, I beg to move:- THAT, Clause 154 of the Bill be amended in sub-clause (3) by— (a) deleting the words “not exceeding five hundred thousand” and substituting therefor the words “not less than ten million”; (b) deleting the words “not exceeding three years” and substituting therefor the words “not less than five years”. The reason for this amendment is to increase the fine and the number of years of imprisonment for people who refuse to give our authorities access to their vessels. There have been a lot of problems with vessels coming with illegal items into the country."
