"content": "Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise under Standing Order No.225 regarding the requirement that we could have some comments on a petition. Mr. Alphas Kokoya, on behalf of the Bukhayo Council of Elders, asked the House to halt the construction of a water dam at Bunyala by West Kenya Sugar Company in Busia County. Having gone through that Petition and made visits to the site, the Committee’s findings are as follows: (1) There is no construction of a water dam along Suo River by West Kenya Sugar Company; instead the Company intended to obstruct water from the river. (2) The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the Water Resource Management Authority (WRMA) did not take proactive measures to inform the communities regarding the project. (3) There is no evidence that the Water Resource Users Association in Nambale exists. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
