    "content": "Hon. Members, this is Petition No.26 of 2015 and the conveyance relates to a petition regarding mandatory voter registration and compulsory voting by Kenyan citizens. Hon. Members, Standing Order No.225(2)(b) requires that the Speaker reports to the House any petition other than that presented by a Member. I, therefore, wish to convey to the House that my office is in receipt of a petition signed by one David O. Gesicho, a resident of Kakamega County, regarding mandatory voter registration and compulsory voting by Kenyan citizens. The petitioner has raised concern that there is general disinterest/apathy by a significant portion of eligible Kenyan population to participate in the elections of representatives at the national and county level as well as elections of the President and governors. This is demonstrated by the low voter registration and voter turnout during elections."
