Senators, pursuant to Standing Order No.227(1), the petition shall stand committed to the relevant standing committee, in this case, the Standing Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations. I have heard Sen. Wako’s sentiments about this issue being directed to the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. However, I commit it to the Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations although I agree with Sen. Wako that it could be enriched very much if there is consultation between the two committees. However, the committee of committal is the Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations. In terms of Standing Order No.227(2), the Committee will be required, in not more than 60 days from the time of reading the prayer, to respond to the petitioner by way of a report addressed to the petitioner and laid on the Table of the Senate.
