"content": "Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, the provision on limiting the trial span of a case to 12 months seeks to re-engineer how the courts dispose of matters. I support it. This being the Committee stage, I would like to say that it takes painfully too long for cases to be determined. For example, cases where public officers are charged in court and may later be proved innocent. They are suspended immediately the day they are charged and the trial span in those cases in our country is between five and six years. Through the delay, you would have essentially shattered and suspended the career of a person. Succession matters, to which Hon. Waiganjo has spoken, are taking painfully long for people who have just lost a loved one. I agree with this amendment and urge all Members to support it. It is something to re-engineer the trial span of cases as, indeed, in other jurisdictions."
