"content": "Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this chance to contribute. I wish to congratulate the drafter of this Bill, Hon. Nyokabi. Indeed, she is the peoples’ lawyer and she remains to be a fighter of peoples’ democracy and rights. Information is power. This Bill has come at a time when Kenya has come from the dark days where information was scarce. This Bill, combined with the existing laws, is going to help Kenyans to understand their rights. It is in line with Article 35 of the Constitution where Kenyans are guaranteed the right to access information. This Bill will lead us to the realisation of democracy and the freedom of speech. In Kenya right now, many people lack information. With the enactment of this Bill, more Kenyans will access information and we will have reference. In Kenya, the more information you have, the more access to resources you have. Many people in this country have no information about even the Uwezo Fund, the Women Enterprise Fund and the Youth Enterprise Development Fund. Those who have the information have already applied for the funds and are benefiting from the funds as opposed to those who do not have the information.
