Temporary Deputy Chairman, I beg to move:- THAT, Clause 10 of the Bill be amended by inserting the following new sub- clause immediately after sub-clause (6)— “(6A) Where the Commissioner fails to respond to the application for deregistration within six months, the applicant shall be deemed to be deregistered.” The Bill does not give a timeline within which the commissioner is required to respond to any application for deregistration. This may create uncertainty on the part of the taxpayer, especially in the case of foreign entities that wish to exit from the Kenyan market. That is why we have decided to put that clause so that we have a timeline. I request Members to support this amendment."
