    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance, Commerce and Budget regarding the Status and performance of the leather industry, which the Government in 2013 identified as a priority for development. In the Statement, the Chairperson should:- 1. Explain why the country still imports over 90 per cent of its footwear requirements at a great cost in terms of foreign and employment creation. State whether the policy in place to control dumping of footwear in the country kills local production. 2. Explain the specific measures the Government has put in place to ensure that the industry regains its glory and contributes to the economy, including creating more employment opportunities. 3. Explain what the Government is doing to ensure that local manufacturing is empowered to fully utilize the available raw hides and skins for the benefit of the country."
