    "content": "Thank you, hon Speaker. I wish to move the following Motion:- THAT, this House adopts the Report of the Departmental Committee on Finance, Planning and Trade on the Privatisation of the Public Sector Owned/Controlled Sugar Companies (Nzoia Sugar Company, South Nyanza Sugar Company, Chemelil Sugar Company, Muhoroni Sugar Company and Miwani Sugar Company), laid on the Table of the House on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. I want to first of all thank the members of my Committee who sat to produce this Report. I wish to indicate that the sugar sector supports a lot of Kenyans. In fact, it is estimated that it supports almost six million Kenyans directly and indirectly, especially in the western and coastal regions. This sector has had a lot of challenges and opportunities at the same time. One of the greatest opportunities this sector has is that the sugar we produce has excess market in this country. Unfortunately, we have had challenges in this sector. One of our greatest challenges has been the high cost of production. In fact, when you compare the cost of producing sugar in Kenya with that of other countries, you realise that the cost of production in Kenya is two times higher."
