"content": "Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, if a police officer is arrested, he has to be charged within the regulations of the Police Force. That means he will be charged under Orderly Room proceedings first. That is what will determine whether he will continue to be a police officer, or he will be dismissed. Later on, he can be charged in a court of law. If you are found with a toy gun and handcuffs or ammunition, and you are off-duty, you have to show why you were having such items. It is completely in order for the Commissioner of Police to charge a police officer through Orderly Room proceedings, after which he may end up charging him in a court of law to decide his fate. That is exactly what happened to this particular gentleman. As I said, if the gentleman was not happy with the decision which was made then, he would have appealed within seven days. Of course, he did not do so. Instead it is the hon. Member who applied for him to be reinstated. I would request the hon. Member to ask the police officer to reapply, so that his case can be considered or not."
