"content": "Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to support this Bill. The Jubilee Government has made good strides and progress in providing Kenyans with energy. However, a number of our schools are still yet to be connected to the national grid because of challenges, particularly in rural areas where land is sparse and geographical coverage is huge. It has been part of the Jubilee Government Manifesto to provide power to Kenyans, particularly schools because of the laptop project. The REA has tried. In a number of areas, we only have lines that do not have power. I urge that we continue to look for other sources of energy including geo- thermal hydro-power. The Government should also realise that the people who own land where we get wayleaves for various power lines should be properly and fairly compensated. In my constituency, we have a challenge with the KETRACO power line, which is a major line. My The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
