I fear that if we do what the Chair has just stipulated that we remove the word “partner” and replace it with “spouse”, there are going to be people out there who are going to get themselves into marriages that mean absolutely nothing. They will just get a paper but basically the relationship will mean nothing. I feel strongly that the difference between “spouse” and “partner” is a piece of paper. If we are talking about inability to donate an organ to a partner, it is entirely short-sighted. Because of that, I do not support."
