"content": " Hon. Senators, I have a Communication to make on the meeting of the Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Labour and East African Affairs. On Thursday, 18th February, 2016, Sen. Musila sought a statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the Government’s cash transfers to the elderly. Further, on Tuesday, 8th March, 2016, Sen. George Khaniri sought a statement regarding registration of persons with disabilities. The issue of cash transfers for the elderly is an issue that has continuously been raised in this House. On many occasions, it has been responded to unsatisfactorily. Consequently, the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare deemed it necessarily to convene a meeting of all interested Senators and invite the Cabinet Secretary (CS), Ministry of Labour and East African Affairs. Hon. Senators, I, therefore, inform you that the committee has convened a meeting with the CS for all Senators to deliberate on the matter of cash transfer programme for the elderly as well as the registration of persons with disabilities; these issues fall under the docket of the said Ministry. The meeting will be held tomorrow, Wednesday 13th April, 2016, in the Senate Chamber, ground floor, Main Parliament Building starting at 11 a.m. I, therefore, urge all hon. Senators to attend. I thank you. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate"
