Temporary Deputy Speaker, we all know that Nairobi, being a segregated city had only one significant place where people of African origin could meet, discuss and express their political feelings. This was Kamukunji Grounds in my constituency. For many years, this has been the place that has pulled in people from all over our capital city to express their inspiration in terms of independence and freedom, to express their views in terms of the kind of nation they wanted to live in and the kind of leadership they had. It is here where they came every year to rally the Kenyan public against the repressive colonial rule that we had for very many years. During the many years of the Kenyatta regime and the one party rule of the Moi regime, Kamukunji has always been the place where Kenyans come together to express their feelings.
