"content": "Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, in Gikomba Market, you will meet gifted Kenyans who are working while sitting on one another, making wheelbarrows, shovels and hammers. Since there is no space and the place is insecure, Sen. Muthama will not find time to go and shop there. However, he will go to Nakumatt Supermarket to buy hammers and wheelbarrows imported from China and India. We are killing our local industries and land is being dished out in this city. Hawkers do not have a place to work from. You will find somebody with mabati boxes piled up in a very small room. Even if you want to go there to buy a medium sized box, there is no parking. Yet, these are the people who religiously pay taxes to this Government. Where they buy the raw material, there is Value Added Tax (VAT). Some of the businesses of those big dealers who sell the raw materials to them are not registered and they do not even pay taxes. My brother mentioned here that someone needs to be registered so that he feels he is being recognized in the county.
