    "content": "Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. Pursuant to Standing Order No.43(1), I wish to make a general statement regarding the untimely death of Hon. Dennis Akumu. The late Hon. Dennis Akumu was a former Member of Parliament who represented my constituency between 1969 and 1973 and later on during the period between 1992 and 1997 on a FORD(K) ticket. He championed the rights of workers in his capacity as the Secretary-General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) and the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) in Accra, Ghana. The enormous contribution of the late Hon. Dennis Akumu in the struggle for multi-party democracy in Kenya will forever be remembered. On behalf of my constituents, I send my most sincere condolences to Mama Grace Akumu, Mama Ruth Elianor and the entire family. We stand by the family during this difficult moment. Our prayer is that the good Lord will give them strength at this trying moment. You will recall that this Member served alongside such great heroes of our independence struggle like the founding father of this Republic, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta; the doyen of Opposition politics, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and the late Tom Mboya, who was a champion of the workers’ rights."
