    "content": "Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. This is very sad. These are matters of very serious magnitude. The question of GMOs and biotechnology is what drives the food economy in other parts of the world. Here in Kenya, we are hiding our heads under the sand as our people get afflicted by the problem of food insecurity. If the Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives cannot prioritise this issue, what is it really doing? I think that Committee is unable to do its job and that is why there is a proposal to establish a select committee that can work on this matter, conclude it and help the country. We are here as policy makers to come up with policies, laws and recommendations that can make our country move forward. I urge that you make a serious ruling regarding the question of reports from the Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives so that you can allow us to move forward. Just this morning, people came from other parts of the world for benchmarking. People come to our country, study our ideas, take them to their countries and implement them. Later on, we visit those countries and claim to have learnt what they learnt from our country. It is shameful and we must act fast."
